Context: The aim of the unit was to develop skills in reading and writing narrative stories in English. The text for the unit was the story by John Escott entitled San Francisco Story. In the first part of the unit students were encouraged to observe the authors’ choices for text organization, the use of the narrator in retelling the story and the use of images to make the story more realistic. They also analyzed the writing conventions for distinguish conversations and the internal thoughts. In the second part of the unit students created their own summaries of the story they read and interpreted.
