About Repository

The Repository was created as part of the Erasmus Plus project focused on developing literacy skills of students in primary grades when learning English. It includes two main parts-the literacy grid template with the explanations and 10 exemplary literacy units with some additional materials such as unit plans, teaching materials, video-taped lesson fragments and commentaries given by students and teachers. The initial set of 10 units was created specifically for grades 3, 4, and 5 by international teams of teachers from three countries – Poland, Slovenia, and Spain.

The Purpose of the Repository

The purposes for creating the Repository are numerous. The main goal has always been to design a space where teachers, students, and teacher educators could find materials related to developing literacy skills in teaching English in variety of contexts including CLIL, bilingual, or other ELT settings for primary students. It has also been envisaged as a platform that allows new ideas to be shared. Therefore, we hope that in addition to the materials already included, new units or unit adaptations will be gradually added to the Repository as new teachers will explore incorporating literacy in their teaching.
The Repository includes unit and lesson plans, teaching materials, videoed segments, and assessment instruments related to developing FL literacy for grades 3-5. These materials could be used for other grades depending on the students’ needs and the curriculum. Teachers can use the materials in their own lessons and see in the video-taped segments of lessons examples of how to implement the materials in their classes. In addition, the Repository includes the teachers’ commentaries about the process of creating and teaching the units. We hope that these materials will be helpful in strengthening the literacy development in English language teaching.

For whom it is designed

It is designed for teachers, students, teacher educators, and researchers who want to explore literacy in English language teaching. The first 10 units were designed for grades 3, 4, and 5, but they could be easily adapted for lower or higher grades. Users can explore the materials and download them for their own teaching.

Organization of the Repository

The repository includes two main parts – the literacy grid template with the explanations and 10 exemplary literacy units with additional materials.
